Question 3: Reactions
Find and Record two intresting, funny, or surprising quotes. Tell why these lines stood out to you, and what they made you think of.
Why these two quotes stood out to me is because Isabel (main character) has gone through so much for her and her little sister Ruth to be free. One of the quotes is "She can do anything. I can do nothing." I know what she is trying to say, she is trying to say her master (Madam) can do anything boss her around, brand her, treat her poorly and Isabel can do nothing about it no protesting or complaining. It would be compared to be dictated or ruled by another person with no freedom at all. Isabel is a slave, her sister is a slave, even when they are sopposed to be free they can not get out of it. The other quote is "A scar is a sign of strengh.. the sign of a survivor". This quote is so great it make me feel that she is not afraid to stand up and that a scar is not a sign of weekness its the sign of a survivor. Isabel and her sister are survivors they have been through thick and thin. Isabel had more weight on her then most people. Before her mom passed she promised she would take care of Ruth and protect her. She is the ultimate survivor in my world. To take care and protect her family and to step up and be the girl shes going to be.
